How to crochet bear hat with pompoms

Materials

Yarn (recommended for 4.0mm crochet)

Crochet hook (size 3mm) to knit hat

Crochet hook (size 2.5mm) to knit bear’s eyes and nose

Stitch Markers  

Pompom Maker

Yarn needle 

Scissors

Size: 3-6 months

Instructions

ROW 1: Make 6 single crochet inside magic ring. Directly knit 1 single crochet in order to start the following row. Mark the beginning of the row with a stitch marker.

ROW 2: Make 1 increase (that is 2 single crochet in the same stitch) for each stitch of the previous row until the end of the row.

ROW 3: Make 1 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 4: Make 2 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 5: Make 3 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 6: Make 4 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 7: Make 5 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 8: Make 6 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 9: Make 7 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 10: Make 8 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 11: Make 9 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROW 12: Make 10 single crochet plus 1 increase. Repeat until the end of the row.

ROWS 13 – 22: 1 single crochet for each stitch of the previous row until the end of the row. Repeat until the end of the rows.

Now we’ve finished row 22.

It’s the only one that I close with a slip stitch.

Row 23: Go up with 3 chains. 1 double crochet for each stitch of the previous row until the end of the row. Close row with a slip stitch.

ROW 24: Go up with 3 chains. Make 1 double crochet taking the double crochet from the previous row from the front part (front post double crochet). Make a double crochet taking the double crochet from the previous row from the back part (back post double crochet). Repeat until the end of the row.  Close row with a slip stitch.

ROW 25: Go up with 3 chains. Make 1 double crochet taking the double crochet from the previous row from the front part (front post double crochet). Make a double crochet taking the double crochet from the previous row from the back part (back post double crochet). Repeat until the end of the row.  Close row with a slip stitch.

Cut the yarn.

Instructions to make bear’s face

Nose

ROW 1: Make 1 chain of 8.

ROW 2: Go up with 1 chain, make 7 single crochet, in the corner stitch make 1 increase, 6 single crochet, 1 increase. Close row with a slip stitch.

ROW 3: Go up with 1 chain, 6 single crochet, 1 increase, 7 Single crochet, 1 increase, 1 Single crochet. Close row with a slip stitch.

Eyes

Make 2 magic rings of 6 single crochet each.

Bear’s face:

1.Locate where to position the eyes, fix them down with pins, and sew them to the hat with a yarn needle.

2.Locate where to position the nose, fix it down with pins, and sew it to the hat with a yarn needle.

3.Insert a yarn in the needle, locate the bottom centre of the nose and make a straight line 1.5cm wide.

4.To make the bear’s smile locate the bottom part of the straight line and mark with pins where you want the smile to be. Get the yarn and sew the smile, as follows:

-       First from the inside of the hat insert the needle in one of the pin marks and extract the yarn

-       Then bring the yarn to the middle where you made the straight line, insert the needle and take it out again

-       Finally bring the yarn to the opposite end that you marked with a pin and make firm with a knot from the inside of the hat.

To complete the hat locate in its upper part the ends where you want the pompons and sew them on.
